In a game originally scheduled for February but postponed until Tuesday night, LSU baseball came back in the late innings to beat Nicholls 5-3 in Thibodaux.
Throughout most of the game, the Colonels (12-21) seemed to be on their way to an upset. Nicholls had scored three runs in the first four innings and kept the Tigers (31-4) in check.
However, after knocking on the door throughout the middle innings, LSU broke through in the top of the seventh. The Tigers offense finally woke up, with Steven Milam, Chris Stanfield and Jake Brown combining to drive in five runs and take the lead for good.
Despite the Colonels getting the tying run at bat in the bottom of the ninth, freshman William Schmidt kept them from doing any damage, forcing a strikeout and a fielder’s choice to strand the runner.
The Colonels will be on the road this weekend facing Lamar. The Tigers will also go on the road this weekend, traveling to Auburn.
