Kade Anderson led LSU baseball to a massive win over No. 10 Oklahoma on Thursday night in Norman.

The LSU ace struck out a career-high 14 batters as the No. 7 Tigers won a top-10 showdown against the Sooners 2-0. Anderson, who pitched all 9 innings, out-dueled highly-touted Oklahoma starter Kyson Witherspoon in the victory.

Per LSU, this marks the first time a Tigers pitcher has thrown a complete game shutout since AJ Labas in 2018. Here are some highlights from Anderson’s historic performance on the mound:

LSU pushed Anderson to the limit on Thursday night, allowing him to throw 135 pitches in the win. He scattered 5 hits on the day, but only 1 — a double from Oklahoma’s Sam Christiansen — went for extra bases. Anderson also issued just 2 free passes.

For the season, Anderson has put up some seriously-impressive numbers. He has a 2.85 ERA and has struck out 75 batters in just 47.1 innings of work.

Offensively, LSU did just enough against a talented Oklahoma pitching staff. The Tigers tagged Witherspoon for 2 runs on 6 hits — including 4 for extra bases — across 6 innings. Perhaps most importantly, LSU battled in a way that no other team has yet this season. Witherspoon is averaging 13.6 strikeouts per 9 innings this season, but punched out just 4 LSU players in 6 frames on Thursday.

LSU entered the weekend amongst the favorites in College World Series betting odds and wins like this will only strengthen its case.

LSU and Oklahoma will play Game 2 of this series on Friday. The series is set to conclude on Saturday.
