OMAHA, Neb. — LSU got off to a strong start at the College World Series on Saturday, taking down Arkansas 4-1 in its first game.
Sophomore left-handed starter Kade Anderson was brilliant in LSU’s win. The Tigers’ ace allowed just one run in seven innings, striking out seven batters and surrendering just three hits on the night.
At the plate, LSU did the majority of its damage in the second inning when it scored three runs after loaded the bases with one out. Junior Chris Stanfield started the rally with a run-scoring single before senior Michael Braswell got hit by a pitch to drive in another run and senior Josh Pearson grounded into a fielder’s choice to hand the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
LSU eventually added its fourth tally of the night on a two-out run-scoring single from freshman Derek Curiel in the eighth inning. Redshirt sophomore right-hander Chase Shores and freshman right-hander Casan Evans combined to toss a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to close out the win.

UPDATED, 4:09 p.m. — In case you missed it, Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood just threw the third no-hitter in the 78-year history of the College World Series (and first since 1960) to end Murray State’s improbable tournament run. What an impressive performance.

Wood also tallied 19 strikeouts — the most ever recorded in a 9-inning CWS game.
LSU fans will remember that Ty Floyd struck out 17 Florida batters during the Tigers’ 2023 title run. His mark is now the fourth-highest total in the history of the CWS, including contests that went to extra innings.
Arkansas will now take on the loser of tonight’s game between LSU and UCLA at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
