LSU football’s transfer portal class just got even better as safety AJ Haulcy joins the group. The news was reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Sunday night.
Haulcy comes in as an All-Big 12 first-team selection from Houston, where he played the past two years and compiled 171 tackles and 10 pass deflections. He hauled in five interceptions in 2024. Combined with his freshman year at New Mexico, he has 2,121 snaps under his belt.
Haulcy fills a need for LSU after the Tigers didn’t add an experienced safety in the first portal window. LSU likes the young talent it has at the position, but Kelly jumped at the chance to add an impact player to the secondary, continuing Kelly’s aggressive approach to recruiting the transfer portal. His staff put together the nation’s top transfer class, starting with a strong showing in the winter window, and it only got better with Haulcy’s commitment.
The Houston, TX native is the No. 31 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the spring transfer portal window, according to On3’s Industry Rankings. He came out of high school as a three-star prospect but quickly played above his ranking as he made 86 tackles during his rookie year.
Haulcy is the 18th transfer of the cycle for LSU. Like much of the class, there’s a good chance he earns a starting role this fall. LSU safety play was inconsistent in 2023 and 2024 — the staff is hoping Haulcy can bring stability to the position.
