As most people are aware, the LSU baseball recruiting class is always one of the best in the sport. This year, Johnson’s group of newcomers was recognized by Baseball America as being the best class in the country.
That includes all of the recruits Jay Johnson signed out of high school, along with the players Johnson landed in the Transfer Portal. What it did not account for was one of the best players in the country forgoing the MLB Draft and coming back to LSU.
Jared “Bear” Jones decided he wanted to spend another season on the Bayou and myself and thousands of other Tiger fans are elated by that decision. The Junior first baseman from Marietta, Georgia showcased his light-tower power last season as he finished with a .301 batting average, 14 doubles, two triples, 28 homers, and 59 RBI.
If Jones has another productive season this Spring, he will likely be an early-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
