Live34 updates
Baylor-MSU finish inbound!
The Bulldogs have cut it to a one-possession game with less than 2 minutes remaining. That game is on CBS.
Halftime: Iowa State 40, Lipscomb 24
Iowa State outscored Lipscomb 25-8 after the Bisons led 16-15. The Cyclones are 18-of-30 from the field while Lipscomb is shooting just 9-of-25 and have seven turnovers.
Robert Morris hanging with Alabama
We’re nearing the midway point in the second half and the Colonials are still staying within striking distance. It’s a 4-point game with 11 minutes left.
Baylor up 7 with 4 minutes left
The Bears are hanging on to their cushion as the game creeps into the final minutes. Four different Baylor players are in double digits now.
Memphis-CSU is underway
Penny Hardaway’s Tigers are actually underdogs in their 5-12 matchup with Colorado State. They’re missing star guard Tyrese Hunter in this one.
Milan Momcilovic already has 17 points for Iowa State
Lipscomb has no answer for Milan Momcilovic. He’s 7-of-9 from the field as Iowa State has jumped out to a 37-21 lead with 2:44 to go before halftime.
A Baylor-Duke second-round matchup would be intriguing
A potential Baylor-Duke second-round matchup would produce a few intriguing storylines.
That would pit Jeremy Roach against his former team. Roach was a four-year starter at Duke but transferred last offseason in hopes of returning to his natural point guard position.
That would also pit Baylor freshman Rob Wright against former high school teammate Cooper Flagg. They were two of the stars of the Montverde Academy team that went undefeated last year and won the high school national title.
Then there’s the NBA component. Flagg is the presumptive No. 1 overall pick. Balor’s VJ Edgecombe might be the second-best draft prospect in this NCAA tournament.
VJ Edgecombe showing out
Edgecombe is starting to find a rhythm now in the second half.
The Bears are up 8 with just under 8 minutes left in the game.
Another alley-oop for Omoruyi
The Alabama combo of Mark Sears and Cliff Omoruyi have hooked up for yet another alley-oop, but Robert Morris isn’t going anywhere.
Iowa State goes on another run
The Bisons responded with an 11-4 run of their own to take a 16-15 lead at the under-12 timeout in the first half … and Iowa State took over. The Cyclones have scored 12 straight points since trailing for the first time all game to take a 27-16 lead and force a Lipscomb timeout.
VJ Edgecombe spikes ball off rim
The Bears are still in control in the second half, and Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe nearly had the highlight of the tournament — until he came up just short. The NBA prospect’s dunk attempt hit the rim and rebounded all the way back to the other side of the court.
No. 15 Robert Morris (+12.5) covers 1H spread, eyes upset vs. No. 2 Alabama
No. 15 Robert Morris, a massive 22.5-point underdog against No. 2 Alabama, is only down 40-36 at halftime. The Colonials never led, but never trailed by more than 10 points and easily covered the 12.5-point first-half spread.
Can Robert Morris pull off one of the biggest upsets (by the point spread) in NCAA history?
Cyclones start hot
Iowa State has jumped out to an 11-5 lead over Lipscomb in the first five minutes as the Cyclones are shooting 5-of-8 from the field.
Iowa State-Lipscomb tips off
No. 3 Iowa State is a 14.5-point favorite in its matchup with No. 14 Lipscomb. The game is underway.
Halftime: Alabama 40, Robert Morris 36
The Crimson Tide can’t feel great about that first half. Robert Morris hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to make it a one-possession game before a Mark Sears free throws sent the game to halftime. Other than a brief double-digit lead midway through the first half, the Colonials have been in it throughout.
Alabama’s Cliff Omoruyi leads all scorers with 15 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting. Amarion Dickerson has 13 points for the Colonials.
Alabama’s Omoruyi takes flight
Alabama’s Cliff Omoruyi is a walking (flying?) highlight reel. Here’s his latest with just under 4 minutes left in the first half.
Slow start for VJ Edgecombe
VJ Edgecombe is off to a slow start in his March Madness debut.
The celebrated Baylor freshman so far has just a transition bucket and a couple free throws halfway through the Bears’ first-round matchup against Mississippi State.
With Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey not part of this NCAA tournament, Edgecombe has the chance to bolster his status as a projected top-five pick and perhaps even gain ground on the Rutgers duo to go even higher. He’ll need to be more aggressive and more impactful in the second half.
Robert Morris hanging with Alabama
There’s just over 5 minutes left in the first half and No. 15 Robert Morris is alive and well in its first-round matchup with No. 2 Alabama.
Alabama took a brief double-digit lead, but the Colonials got it back to a one-possession game with an 11-4 run.
Halftime update: Baylor 37, MSU 32
It was an evenly matched and highly entertaining first half between the Bears and Bulldogs. Baylor was able to secure a five-point lead just before the break, but it feels like a game that’ll come down the wire.
MSU’s Josh Hubbard leads all scorers with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
MSU’s Kugel delivers highlight of the morning
Baylor and Mississippi State are still locked in a one-possession game and trading leads, but Josh Hubbard just connected with Riley Kugel for a monster alley-oop.
Just 3 minutes left in the first half.
