Brings defense in return
Back in action after missing the last six games due to a Grade 2 left ankle sprain, Jackson nearly matched his season-long average of 29.4 minutes per game. He handled a substandard 15.3 percent usage rate while Ja Morant (44 points on 22 field-goal attempts) dominated the ball for Memphis, but Jackson made his mark on the defensive end, falling just one steal shy of matching his season high. Fantasy managers who elected not to activate Jackson on Friday should wait to do so until his status for Saturday’s game against the Heat is clarified. The Grizzlies haven’t offered an indication that Jackson will be held out for the second leg of the back-to-back set, though it wouldn’t be surprising if he was rested coming off the injury.

Struggles with shot Friday
Ja Morant led the way for the Grizzlies with an outstanding 44-point effort, but Bane, who has found a way to step up on a regular basis in recent weeks, was unable to follow suit. The veteran forward had a rough showing on offense, and at least from an efficiency perspective, this was one of his worst outings of the campaign. Bane is still averaging a solid line of 20.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game since the beginning of March, so he should find a way to bounce back sooner than later — possibly against the Heat on Saturday in the second leg of this back-to-back set.

Explodes for 44 points in loss
Morant was one of the top fantasy performers in Friday’s slate with an impressive stat line, but his efforts weren’t enough against one of the hottest teams in the NBA. The star floor general finished just two boards and three assists away from recording a triple-double, an achievement he’s notched only once this season. Morant has been battling injuries throughout the campaign, but he’s been healthy of late and has missed only two games since the end of the All-Star break. Since that date onward, the star floor general is averaging 27.1 points, 7.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game across 11 outings.
