Metamora all-stater finds a new college basketball home from transfer portal

Ethan Kizer has found a new college basketball home.

The former Metamora all-stater announced on social media Monday his commitment to South Dakota. Kizer, a 6-foot-5 sophomore forward, entered the transfer portal last month. He is coming off a 2024-25 season during which he didn’t appear in any of South Alabama’s 32 games.

As a freshman in 2023-24, Kizer appeared in 17 games and made six starts. He averaged 1.9 points and 1.7 rebounds.

South Dakota, a Summit League program, went 19-14 overall and finished fifth at 9-7 in the league standings. Current Metamora senior Jonah Funk is committed to the Coyotes.

During his senior season at Metamora, Kizer helped lead the Redbirds to the 2023 Class 3A state championship. He was named first-team all-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and The Associated Press. He scored 1,515 career points, putting him at No. 3 on Metamora’s all-time scoring list.
