Michigan offers 4-star legacy safety Charles Woodson Jr.

Michigan offered Charles Woodson Jr. Wednesday night, paving the path for one of the most celebrated and accomplished families in Wolverine history to continue their legacy in Ann Arbor. Woodson is the No. 284 recruit in the 2027 class and the No. 31 sophomore safety nationally.

The Wolverines took a patient approach to recruiting the son of program legend Charles Woodson, who won a national championship and a Heisman trophy while making plays on both sides of the ball in the Maize and Blue.

Woodson Jr., a 5-11, 155-pound safety from Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona High has already racked up double-digit Division-I offers from the likes of Texas A&M, Florida State and Ole Miss. The Wolverines are the first Big Ten program to extend a scholarship.

He spoke with Wolverine secondary coach LaMar Morgan about a week ago, and that led to this week’s offer. Woodson Jr. recently visited Texas A&M and thinks he will get up to Ann Arbor at some point but does not have anything planned yet.

“It feels great,” Woodson Jr. told The Wolverine.

The rapidly rising safety prospect recorded 53 total tackles (22 solo) as a sophomore and secured 1 interception to go along with 2 defended passes and 1 fumble recovery. He logged an interception and 2 passes defended as a freshman as well.

Woodson Sr. is a member of College Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2018. Three years later, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted him as well. During his Michigan career, Woodson Sr. logged a whopping 16 interceptions, including 7 during the 1997 season. He won the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik awards that season, taking home the Walter Camp and Jim Thorpe trophies as well as he swept the major defensive awards with the Wolverines.

He went on to play 18 seasons in the NFL— 7 for the Green Bay Packers and 11 for the Oakland Raiders. Woodson Sr. wrapped up his legendary career with 65 interceptions, 11 that he returned for touchdowns, over 254 games.

Now, his son is continuing the family legacy as the No. 28 recruit in Florida in the On3 Industry Ranking. Lake Nona head coach David Aubrey explained to On3’s Steve Wiltfong what makes Woodson Jr. a Power Four prospect.

“Charles is an exceptional talent with the instincts and skills that set him apart on the field,” Aubrey said. “His ability to play downhill with intensity, combined with his range to cover sideline to sideline, makes him a versatile and impactful player. His football IQ, undoubtedly influenced by his lineage from the legendary Charles Woodson, shines through in his understanding of the game. With his natural ability, work ethic, and eagerness to grow, his potential is limitless. It’s exciting to see how he continues to develop as a cornerstone of our program.”
