Michigan State football – focused on pass rush – reportedly adds transfer Cam Williams

• Michigan State football bolstered its defensive line by adding edge rusher Cam Williams, a transfer from Georgia State.
• MSU also recently added tight end transfer Kai Rios from Indiana State.

Michigan State football continues to add to its roster at a position of need.

The Spartans picked up another transfer in Cam Williams on Tuesday, according to On3.com, the second edge rusher added since the end of spring practice April 19.

This will be the fourth school in six seasons for the 6-foot-5, 245-pound former three-star recruit from Loganville, Georgia. Williams began his career at Troy in 2020 and 2021, playing just one game for the Trojans. After transferring to Jacksonville State of the Football Championship Subdivision, Williams posted 22 tackles and a sack in 18 games over two seasons for the Gamecocks.

Last season after transferring to Georgia State, Williams had 19 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in 10 games for the Panthers.

MSU also added Texas Tech transfer Isaac Smith to help bolster its pass rush that finished tied for 111th in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 19 sacks – 15 in the first four games and four in the final two. The Spartans also brought in two other transfers, David Santiago (Air Force) and Anelu Lafele (Wisconsin), in the winter semester and return defensive ends Jalen Thompson and Quindarius Dunningan. Coach Jonathan Smith’s defense lost Anthony Jones and James Schott as outbound transfers.

Smith also added tight end transfer Kai Rios from Indiana State over the weekend. In three seasons with the Sycamores, the 6-6, 260-pound native of Rock Island, Illinois, had eight catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in 21 games.
