Michigan State football listed surprisingly high in new post-spring power rankings

One college football analyst has Michigan State surprisingly higher than many others in his post-spring power rankings

One college football analyst has Michigan State as an upper half power four team, and higher than you may expect following spring practice.

Many college football analysts have released power rankings following the conclusion of spring practice and the spring transfer portal — that included popular social media account CFBudge. He released his “Post-Spring Power Conference Top 70” — which also included Notre Dame, Oregon State and Washington State — and he has the Spartans surprisingly higher than expected. In CFBudge’s rankings, Michigan State was listed at No. 35 — which is right on the line of the upper half of the power 70 programs.

From a Big Ten perspective, Michigan State was the No. 11 team in CFBudge’s rankings. The Spartans were behind the following squads from the Big Ten: Penn State (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 6), Oregon (No. 8), Indiana (No. 10), USC (No. 13), Michigan (No. 14), Washington (No. 17), Minnesota (No. 28), Illinois (No. 30) and Rutgers (No. 34).

Some of the teams Michigan State found themselves ahead of in the rankings that may raise some eyebrows were: Iowa State (No. 36), Nebraska (No. 37), Iowa (No. 39), TCU (No. 41), Florida State (No. 51), Colorado (No. 52) and NC State (No. 56).

From my point of view, this is an interesting power rankings list, but also one I actually can understand and get behind. Michigan State landing as the No. 11 Big Ten team isn’t surprising at all, as I personally would peg them right around there. But some of the teams ahead and behind the Spartans (from both the Big Ten and outside of the league) I could see myself flipping.
