He spoke a ton about the new pass catchers, including heavily discussing Duce Robinson, Squirrel White, and Randy Pittman. Robinson’s mix of size and athleticism, as well as leadership were praised. White’s athleticism and versatility. Pittman tough and does a lot well. All had production with great skillsets, per Norvell.
Norvell said they wanted size and speed, got that in Duce Robinson. ‘His versatility of the things he can do in the offense I think are exciting’.
He called Squirrel White one of the fast players in college football.
Randy Pittman was called a dynamic player who can line up all over the field, adding to a good tight end room.
He was asked about Duce Robinson and leadership qualities. Norvell said he has spoken openly about the mentality that he is looking for and he believes Robinson has displayed a lot of that. ‘That was sought out’. He spoke of wanting a ‘big scope of impact’, not solely what you do between the white lines but what you bring on a daily basis, being the best teammate, pushing folks, inspiring others, etc.
He spoke some on Lawayne McCoy, Elijah Williams, BJ Gibson (mentioned his big swing in recent baseball practice) – excited about that young group. Then spoke on Hykeem Williams, followed by Jalen Brown – who he said ‘needs to take a step here this spring’. He believes the newcomers to that room bring both experience – what it looks like and needs to look like – but also adds a competitive element to it. Also added he likes incoming high school, etc. group at wide receiver.
