Most NFL coaches are asking the hard-hitting questions about leadership and competition at the NFL Scouting Combine—but those coaches aren’t named Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin, known for his unorthodox approach and close connection to his players, apparently had an interesting interaction with one of the top quarterback prospects of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Quinn Ewers, who threw for over 9,000 yards during his three years as a starter for the Texas Longhorns, explained the hilarious situation that unfolded between himself and Tomlin on CBS Sports.
Ewers immediately cracked a smile when asked about the best question Tomlin had asked him and revealed that Tomlin inquired about his major. His smile quickly turned into laughter when discussing Tomlin’s follow-up question about the young QB’s GPA during his time at Texas.
When asked whether Tomlin was impressed with his 3.3 GPA, Ewers left listeners laughing, detailing that the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach “just wrote it down in his notebook.”
Should Ewers wind up as the next Pittsburgh Steelers QB, the draft day phone call between Tomlin and himself will likely cover this comical interaction.
