USA TODAY Studio IX dedicated to amplifying the power of women’s sports
2025 WNBA Draft watch party at USA TODAY Studio IX’s launch on April 14, 2025 at a property developed by AVENU in Brooklyn, New York. The party was held in partnership with the New York Liberty and sponsored by Cisco and Taboola.
Following a second straight Elite Eight in the women’s NCAA Tournament, Kim Mulkey has been busy retooling the LSU women’s basketball roster for the 2025-26 season.
Mukley struck gold when she earned the commitment of South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley in the transfer portal on Friday. Fulwiley will be a junior next season and has two years of eligibility left and most importantly, gives the Tigers a starting point guard option.
The guard announced her announcement on Instagram on Friday.
Fulwiley was on the Gamecocks’ 2023-24 national championship team and was a key player for the 2024-25 team that reached the title game. Fulwiley made just three starts this past season, but averaged 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals in 18.4 minutes per game. She shot 43.8% from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range.
With the addition of Fulwiley, she will form a three-guard tandem with returners Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams in the backcourt. Fulwiley joins Notre Dame forward transfer Kate Koval and East Carolina forward Amiya Joyner as other transfers to join the Tigers this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Charlie Creme, Fulwiley is the No. 5 player in the women’s transfer portal this offseason, while Koval is No. 15. The Tigers lost Sa’Myah Smith, who was ranked No. 9 in the portal ranking.
Fulwiley will have a chance to start with LSU, whereas a path for that with the Gamecocks was closed with the return of star Raven Johnson and the addition of Florida State‘s Ta’Niya Latson for South Carolina in the transfer portal.
LSU and South Carolina have become rivals over the past handful of seasons as the best teams in the SEC.
