Mizzou expected to hire Tim Fuller as basketball GM

PowerMizzou.com has confirmed through a source a report that Providence assistant coach Tim Fuller is expected to be named the general manager of the Missouri men’s basketball program.

It’s a return to the “Show-Me” state for Fuller, who previously served as an assistant at Mizzou from 2011-15 under former head coaches Frank Haith and Kim Anderson. He’s spent the past three seasons with the Friars under head coach and former Tiger Kim English. His 26-year career also includes stops as an assistant at North Carolina A&T, Elon, Wake Forest, Fairfield and Louisville. In 2012, ESPN named him one of college basketball’s top-10 assistant coaches under the age of 40.

Fuller also spent time as an executive at both Nike and Overtime Elite. At Nike, he worked under current Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, helping to sign athletes to endorsement deals with the brand. And at OTE, he served as the Vice President of Recruiting and Player Personnel, bringing in recruits to play for the upstart league.

MU listed the responsibilities of the GM position in the initial job posting, which included “overseeing talent acquisition to enhance cohesiveness of the team, managing the player personnel aspects of the program, such as recruiting talent, roster management and NIL opportunities, supporting the administrative functions such as budget supervision, team traveling and scheduling, monitoring the progress of overall success, determined by team created metrics, assisting with various program related items as needed, adhering to NCAA, SEC and University regulations and other tasks assigned by the head coach or sports administrator.”

“I think it’s the right time now to do it, but ultimately, what do I think it’ll allow me to take place in?” head coach Dennis Gates said at the “Zou to You” tour stop in St. Louis on April 29. “It’ll allow me to continue to do other things without dividing time. Agent relationships are a real thing. It’s very important throughout the season. It’s very important in the offseason, and it frees up any staff and allows guys to really focus on the players in your program. And not saying that I’ve divided my time. But the reality is, the portal opens while the season is still remaining. Now, understand the teams that either get left behind, that’s still winning or the teams that get a headstart. The portal is a tricky, tricky time frame and I’m excited about the transition of NCAA basketball, but also what it’s going to look like as we settle into the realities.
