Monday Headlines: Kentucky in the new college basketball rankings

Kentucky basketball secured a “rebound” on Saturday with their 80-57 victory over South Carolina.

The win helped the Wildcats stop the bleeding of their second two-game skid in as many weeks.

Two takeaways from Saturday’s game were defense and health. Kentucky locked in on the defensive end of the court and showed effort they’d lacked in previous games. The Wildcats also had Lamont Butler back for the first time in two weeks and saw Andrew Carr continue to work his way back into the rotation.

This week won’t be an easy road for Kentucky, though, as they host Tennessee on Tuesday night in Rupp Arena. The Wildcats beat the Volunteers a few weeks ago in Knoxville and will have their hands full tomorrow night on their home court.

Later on this week Kentucky will travel to Texas for their only matchup of the season.

A 2-0 sweep of this week’s schedule would certainly be ideal, but there is no such thing as an easy path to victory in the Southeastern Conference. Both games are guaranteed to be a grind and challenge Kentucky’s ability to continue their efforts from this past Saturday.

As of today, Kentucky is trending upwards in some of the national rankings.

The NET rankings now have the Wildcats at No. 17 after recently listing them at No. 23, and DRatings moved Kentucky up one spot from No. 24 to No. 23.

However, EvanMiya (No. 24) and Haslametrics (No. 27) each slid Kentucky back a slot in their rankings.
