NAIA Missouri Valley College hires Jim Boone as new Head Basketball Coach

Missouri Valley College is proud to announce the hiring of Jim Boone, one of the most accomplished coaches in college basketball history, as the next head coach of its men’s basketball program.

With over 39 years of coaching experience and more than 600 career victories, Boone has earned national recognition for his ability to rebuild collegiate basketball programs at various levels. His impressive track record speaks to his dedication and expertise in the sport.

“Jim Boone is the ideal choice to lead us into the future,” said Missouri Valley College President Joe Parisi. “He embodies integrity, hard work, and a proven history of success.”

Boone steps into a Missouri Valley program that is hungry and eager for success.

“I am thrilled to join the Marshall community and eager to get started,” Boone expressed. “I look forward to meeting the team and working with the talented young men already on the roster. Together, we will build the next chapter of this program.”

A nationally recognized clinician and speaker, Boone presents annually at prestigious events, including the Nike Championship Coach Clinics and the USA Basketball Academy, as well as various high school associations across the country. He is also known for his development of the highly effective Pack Line Defense.

“I am truly grateful to President Parisi, AD Marsha Lashley, and the entire search committee for this remarkable opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program into a new era,” Boone said.”

Most recently, Boone served as head coach at Greensboro College, where he successfully turned around a program that had experienced seven consecutive losing seasons, leading them to the USA-South Conference championship game. His previous tenure at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith saw him revitalize a program transitioning into the Lone Star Conference.

Boone’s most notable achievements came at Delta State University, where he established one of the nation’s winningest programs, averaging over 20 wins per season, and mentored the school’s all-time leading scorer and Gulf South Conference Player of the Year.

Boone has outlined a clear vision for the MVC program, emphasizing discipline, hard work, and teamwork. “Success is not solely defined by winning games; it’s about developing young men into leaders both on and off the court,” he said.

He plans to implement a rigorous training regimen that incorporates his signature Pack Line Defensive approach, a strategy that has proven effective throughout his career. Additionally, Boone aims to strengthen ties with the local community by hosting youth clinics and outreach events to foster enthusiasm for the Vikings’ future.

“This is more than just coaching basketball,” he added. “It’s about creating a family and a culture of excellence that resonates throughout the college and beyond.”

Boone holds an MBA from the University of Kentucky and an undergraduate degree in Accounting from HBCU West Virginia State University, where he was a four-year letter winner on the basketball team.
