Dyson Daniels made history this week, becoming the first Australian to win the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.
Following a trade to the Atlanta Hawks, Daniels’ production on both the offensive but especially the defensive end skyrocketed, finishing the year leading the league in steals.
But following his win, he addressed a fellow Australian who many experts believe could have an equally successful NBA career – his younger brother Dash.

Australia’s next best NBA star could be the sibling of one of the country’s current top performers, with many believing Dash Daniels to be a likely top 10 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
The younger Daniels will spend the next season as a Next Star for Melbourne United in Australia’s NBL, before he heads to America, with his brother telling Andrew Gaze’s SEN show that he may even be better than the Atlanta Hawks star was at the same age.
“He’s only 17 years old and has still got a lot of development in him but he’s a similar player to me,” Dyson Daniels said.
“A really good defender, developing his offensive game… he can play-make, the shot’s coming along, he’s got a really good frame, he’s my height already. He’s got all the athleticism as well.
“I think he wins, to be honest. At 17 he’s got me covered.
“He’s got some talent at his age and he’s got a lot more size than me.”
But Dash will have big shoes to fill, with Dyson finishing the 2024-25 season as not only the Most Improved Player winner, but runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year and a likely First Team All-Defence selection.
