Did Cooper Flagg find out his potential NBA landing spot on Monday night?

The one-and-done Duke star, who won both national player of the year awards in his lone season with the Blue Devils, is the overwhelming favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. And the Dallas Mavericks were awarded the first pick during the draft lottery in Chicago.

Flagg, who graduated high school a year early to reclassify to the 2024 recruiting cycle, was young for a freshman but still dominated college basketball. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season, leading Duke to the Final Four, where they fell to Houston.

Flagg was the No. 1 overall recruit in 2024 and has been viewed as a can’t-miss draft prospect since before stepping foot on campus in Durham. He was rated a perfect 100 by 247Sports’ Composite rankings alongside former Rutgers forward Ace Bailey, who’s also viewed as a top five pick in 2025.

Flagg boasts an elite frame, measuring at 6-foot-7 and 3/4 inches barefoot, with a 7-foot wingspan and an 8-feet, 10 1/2-inch standing reach at the NBA draft combine on May 12. He nearly grew an inch from last year, along with gaining 12 pounds, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

The NBA draft lottery is conducted with a machine that randomly chooses the top four picks based on percentage chances after each team’s respective finish in the 2024-25 regular season. The 14 teams that are eligible for lottery picks are the teams that missed out on the playoffs.

The top four teams are selected via the lottery process, with the remaining 10 picks in descending order based on regular season records. Dallas had just a 1.8% chance at landing the first pick.
