Nebraska and Oklahoma were slated for a 5:00 p.m. ET first pitch in the Chapel Hill Regional. Mother Nature has put a stop to that, as the showdown will be delayed by rain.
At the moment, it’ll only be an hour — first pitch is now scheduled for 7:36 p.m. ET. We’ll see if it has to be moved back any further, but that’s where the two teams stand ahead of their face-off right now.
On the year, the Cornhuskers were 32-27 overall in the regular season. They went .500 within the Big Ten, amassing a 15-15 record. They have a ton of momentum entering the Chapel Hill Regional, after Nebraska rose above their No. 8 seed and won the Big Ten Baseball Tournament via a win over UCLA in the championship game.
Meanwhile, the Sooners finished 35-20 on the season, amassing a 14-16 record within the SEC. They made a little bit of a run in the SEC Baseball Tournament, but Oklahoma was bested by the eventual champions in Vanderbilt. Now, they’re hoping the Chapel Hill Regional is a bit more fruitful for them.
The winner of this game will face North Carolina. The Tar Heels are one of the favorites to win the College World Series, so them falling before getting a chance to strut their stuff would be a surprise.
On Friday, they defeated Holy Cross by a score of 4-0. The first three innings were scoreless, but UNC made a three-run dent in the bottom of the fourth inning, due to a couple of big hits.
They’d add on another run in the bottom of the fifth, and that was all starter Jake Knapp needed. He delivered 8.1 innings of shutout ball, and Walker McDuffie came on for the final two outs. North Carolina has championship aspirations, and they started their journey off with a bang.
Time will tell who’s able to rise above and get the win, but Nebraska and Oklahoma is certainly a game to keep an eye on when it begins. The Tar Heels will be waiting for the victor.
