COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Aggie baseball team is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the D1 Baseball Preseason Top 25 poll, which was unveiled earlier this week.
The Aggies are coming off of a 53-15 season last year that saw the Maroon and White finish as the national runner up.
Rounding out the top five were Virginia, LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Six of the top 10 teams are from the Southeastern Conference.
The Aggies have a new head coach this year. Michael Early was promoted from assistant coach to head coach in the off season.
The Aggies will hold an inter squad scrimmage at 4 p.m., Sat., Feb. 8 at Blue Bell Park. Admission is free and there will be a fireworks show following the game.
The regular season opener will take place at 6 p.m., Fri., Feb. 14, when Elon University of the Colonial Athletic Association comes in for a three-game weekend series.
Texas A&M opens the season by playing its first eight games at Blue Bell Park.
