It doesn’t matter if you know what’s coming. Area aces show us how to throw the best pitches in MetroWest and tell us what makes them so hard to hit.
Sick of watching the Red Sox? The NCAA baseball tournament will have a distinctly New England flair. Five area teams qualified: Central Connecticut, Fairfield, Holy Cross , Northeastern. and Rhode Island.
Games in the double-elimination regionals begin Friday.
The Huskies are headed to Tallahassee, Florida, and open play against Mississippi State at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN+).
Holy Cross begins against the top overall seed UNC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at noon (ACC Network).
Fairfield traveled to Conway, South Carolina, to face the host Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. (ESPN+).
Central Connecticut is in Auburn, Alabama, against the host Tigers at 7 p.m. (ESPN+).
Rhode Island is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, facing Dallas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN +).
There are also dozens of players across the bracket from Massachusetts.
Northeastern unsurprisingly leads the way with 23 Massachusetts natives on its roster. Six of them hail from MetroWest and greater Milford:
Nick Andersen, Holy Cross
The freshman from Framingham played at Belmont Hill. He hasn’t debuted yet.
Carter Bentley, Northeastern
The Westborough native played high school baseball at the Rivers School. He has 2 hits, including a double, and 5 RBIs over 12 appearances in 2025.
Jack Byrne, Fairfield
The Natick grad has appeared in 13 games his freshman season. Byrne has a double and 3 RBIs in 7 at-bats and has scored 4 runs.
Henry DiGiorgio, Northeastern
He’s made 5 starts over 11 appearances in his debut season., registering three hits and a walk.
Will Fosberg, Northeastern
The Natick grad has 6 doubles, 3 home runs and 2 triples among his 27 hits. The redshirt sophomore contributed 14 RBIs and is hitting .221.
Ryan Gerety, Northeastern
The sophomore from Franklin is hitting .291 this year with 11 doubles and 5 homers. He’s driven in 33 runs and walked 40 times, second on the team, for a .415 on-base percentage over 55 starts.
Matt Lussier, Fairfield
The sophomore from Wellesley has started 4 games this season and appeared in 21. He’s driven in 4 runs on 6 hits and scored 3 times.
Ryan Maiorano, Fairfield
The sophomore from Bellingham made eight appearances last season but hasn’t pitched in 2025.
Connor Peek, Holy Cross
He was an All-Patriot League Second team honoree this spring and the Ray Dobens Award recipient, given to the Crusaders’ most improved player. The Lincoln-Sudbury grad is second on the team hitting .341 in 38 games for the Patriot League Champions. He has 8 doubles and 28 RBIs to go along with 43 hits.
Anthony Ruggiero, Northeastern
The Nipmuc grad is a freshman for the Huskies. He has yet to appear in a game this season.
Cooper Tarantino, Northeastern
The Lincoln-Sudbury product has 1 hit and an RBI in his 4 appearances, including 1 start against Harvard.
