NCAA Division 2 College Football Rankings: Way-Too-Early Top 25

The NCAA Division II college football season is still months away, so there’s no better time to make some early predictions in the quiet of the offseason.

Some of the most productive teams from last year will see returning faces, while others say goodbye to their shining stars. Either way, the Ferris State Bulldogs are coasting on a championship win, and it’ll take a serious squad to dethrone them.

Here’s everything you need to know about the best teams ahead of the 2025 season.

How To Watch NCAA Football In 2025

The National Collegiate Athletic Association can be streamed live on FloCollege, FloFootball and the FloSports app.

Ferris State Football Leads The Way

The reigning national champions of Ferris State look primed to stay at the top. The Bulldogs claimed their third championship title after slamming Valdosta State 49-14 back in December and could very well run it back despite the loss of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to Ole Miss. Their head coach Tony Annese will return for his 13th season and will surely help rising starting quarterback Carson Gulker to similar success.

Harding Football Bringing Complete Power

Exiting the 2024 season with the best total defense and fourth-best total offense in Division II football, Harding will undoubtedly be a top-five contender this year. The Bisons allowed just 200 yards and about 11 points per game from their opponents while averaging 483.7 offensive yards per game themselves. The two reliable sets of legs in running backs Andrew Miller and Braden Jay reached over 1,000 yards each, and should return to the Bisons for their junior and senior years, respectively.

Central Oklahoma Football’s Dangerous Duo

The return of quarterback Jett Huff and the best receiver in the league Terrill Davis puts Central Oklahoma in a solid position heading into the 2025 season. Huff himself is one of the best at the helm, recording 3,396 passing yards alongside 156 rushing yards for 32 total touchdowns in his first stint with the Broncos in 2024. On the other hand, Davis accumulated 1,609 receiving yards on 109 catches and 15 touchdowns. Their chemistry will be unmatched once again.

The Comeback Kids, West Florida Football

West Florida got acclimated with a fresh roster and went 7-3 last year, and now the Argonauts will regain their quarterback, top two running backs and top two receivers. Although the offensive line struggled a bit, allowing 37 sacks throughout the season, West Florida was still able to outplay its opponents by averaging over 100 more offensive yards per game. The injury bug didn’t make anything easier for the Argonauts, but expect to see a healthy roster in the next few months.

Consistency Is Key For Grand Valley State Football

Possibly one of the more surprising teams in the top five list is Grand Valley State, but the consistency from the Lakers is unmatched and seemingly unstoppable. Currently running on a four-year playoff streak, Grand Valley has made the playoffs 18 times since 2001 despite multiple coaching changes and losing athletes to the NFL Draft. The Lakers capped off last season 11-2 under first-time head coach Scott Wooster, and if that’s his first impression, Grand Valley could be in it to win it.
