This new men’s college basketball rankings had to be one of the most consistent rankings thus far, with a top-tier program getting closer to the top.
However, there were still some significant losses that would shift the order of the top ten teams, but the way the season has gone, it hasn’t been surprising that highly ranked teams have taken a loss or two.
Here is what to know about this week’s rankings before teams enter competition.
Duke Moves Up To No. 2, Auburn Unanimous No. 1
- With blowout wins over Miami and Boston College and a West Virginia upset over Iowa State, Duke men’s basketball has moved into the no. 2 spot in this week’s rankings.
- Also, Auburn men’s basketball enters another week as the no. 1 team. Still, this time, they received all of the first-place votes after steamrolling over Mississippi State and surviving Georgia with a two-point win on the road.
- In arguably the biggest game of the week, Auburn will face no. 6 Tennessee on Jan. 25 as they look to remain on top.
The SEC Is In A Frenzy
- Even with Georgia falling out of the poll this week, the SEC still has nine teams from the conference ranked in the top 25.
- Auburn, of course, has yet to lose a game in the incredibly stacked conference, which is a big reason why they are ranked as the best team in the country right now.
- Aside from the Tigers, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee are among the other three from the SEC that make up the top six.
Four New Teams Enter The Fray
- After not being ranked last week, St. John’s, Missouri, West Virginia, and Louisville are all the newest teams to be added to the polls this week.
- Out of the four, West Virginia had the most stunning win with the upset mentioned earlier of now no. 3 Iowa State.
