NCAA Division II Men’s College Basketball Rankings: Washburn Goes Down!

Washburn men’s basketball has spent most of the season the No. 1 team in Division II men’s basketball and was undefeated along with Daemen.

But that is over.

The Ichabods no longer have those privileges after losing not one but both of their games against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Northeastern State last week.

With the losses from Washburn, Daemen men’s basketball is now recognized as the best team.

Nova Southeastern and Alabama Huntsville men’s basketball also benefited by moving up to No. 2 and No. 3.

Biggest Riser: Point Loma

  • Coming into this previous week, the Sea Lions were just barely ranked in the top 25 at No. 23.
  • However, with the unexpected changes that happened, Point Loma has moved up six spots despite going 1-1 last week. It lost in overtime by ten against unranked Westmont but beat No. 24 Concordia-St. Paul with a clutch three-point victory.
  • The Sea Lion’s next opponents are 12-13  Azusa Pacific and 14-13 Vanguard.

Largest Dropper: Valdosta State

  • Although Valdosta State men’s basketball did not drop as much as some teams numbers-wise, their drop from No. 6 to No. 9 makes them this week’s largest droppers.
  • Finally, Washburn’s loss opened up plenty of opportunity for teams in the top ten, especially those in the top five or slightly below.
  • Things were looking really good for the Blazers, who have two home games this weekend against Delta State and Mississippi College, who are in the middle and bottom of the conference. However, they ultimately came up short against the Statesmen before defeating the Choctaws by double digits.
