Another week passes, and Washburn and Daemen remain the only two teams that have yet to lose a game. Thanks to that, they are still the No.1 and No. 2 teams.
The other three remaining teams in the top five—Nova Southeastern, Alabama Huntsville, and Missouri S&T—also won to maintain their current place in the rankings from the previous week.
Last week, Valdosta State men’s basketball looked to be vastly improving in the rankings, jumping up to No.6. However, it suffered an overtime defeat to No. 4 Alabama Huntsville, and the question at the time was how badly that would affect the rankings for this week.
The Blazers only fell one spot after they bounced back and won on the road against West Florida.
Biggest Riser: Southern Nazarene
- Last week, the team extended its winning streak to seven games. They won both of the road games and moved into the No. 15 spot after coming in at No. 21.
- Moving on to a 16-2 record, going into the last month of the regular season, we shouldn’t be caught off guard if the Crimson Storm finds different ways to rank up before the championship month of March.
Largest Droppers: Lenoir-Rhyne And Fairmont State
- Both teams dropped five spots in this week’s rankings after losing to conference opponents at home, Lenoir-Rhyne to Carson-Newman in a double overtime nail bitter in the second meeting of the season, where the Bears also lost that matchup.
- Fairmont State fell short to Concord, who came into the game with an overall record of 8-7 on Jan. 29 and 89-84 on their home floor.
- This bad loss affected them greatly in this week’s rankings by the Fighting Falcons, who were previously ranked No.7 and are now out of the top ten with a No. 12 ranking.
