NCAA Division II Women’s College Basketball Rankings: Now It All Begins

College basketball fans have reached the final stages of the women’s college basketball season, which means the final regular-season rankings have dropped for NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball.

Texas Woman’s completes the season with a win and the No. 1 spot after beating fellow ranked opponent UT Tyler by ten points, 71-61.

Multiple teams are going into conference tournaments on the wrong foot after taking a loss during the final games and dropping spots as a result of it.

As teams begin their quest and journey to a national championship this week, here is what to know about the season’s last Division II women’s basketball rankings.

The Top Five Changes Around One Last Team

  • Grand Valley State women’s basketball, the team that held down the No. 1 spot for most of the season, finishes at No. 2 after losing the top spot last week when they lost their first game against a Division II team, Parkside, on Feb. 15.
  • Cal State-Dominguez Hills women’s basketball, which was undefeated until the last game of the year, was able to move back to No. 3, a spot they were familiar with, much like the Lakers after moving Bentley to its No. 4 spot.
  • Concordia-St. Paul squeezed into one of the best five teams after putting up the final win over Minnesota Crookston and some wins in the NSIC tournament last week before winning the championship on March 4th against Minnesota State.

Drama Among Other Teams Among Ranked Teams

  • Last week, Embry-Riddle was the No. 5 team with one regular season left to play. In that game, the Eagles got blown out against Barry on the road by 24 points. However, the team won their first conference tournament game against Saint Leo on March 4th.
  • Teams such as Fort Hays State, Alaska Anchorage, Seton Hill, and Coker fell multiple spots, taking losses to end the regular season. However, Seton Hill and Coker won the first round of its conference tournament games, hoping to lock in an automatic bid for the big tournament.
  • Francis Marion finished the 2024-2025 regular season at No. 21 after closing out on a nine-game winning streak. It is usually difficult for teams to reach the top 25 in the last week of the regular season, but the Patriots are able to and will go into their conference tournament with momentum.
  • Montana State Billings fell out of the rankings after already being on the edge of the rankings at 25; last week, the Yellowjackets lost on Feb. 27 to Simon Fraser after allowing a 44-point second half in a two-point, 68-66 loss. After that, Montana State would bounce back, winning its senior day game.
