NCAA Division II Women’s College Basketball Rankings: We Have New No. 1

Last week, the top six teams in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball rankings escaped with wins and kept their respective top spots. However, that was not the case this time.

The rankings are in disarray as there were the most shifts in the top half of teams since the beginning of the season in the latest polls.

After being stuck at that No. 2 spot for most of the year, Texas Woman’s finally moved to the No. 1 spot after Grand Valley State women’s basketball suffered its first loss.

Cal State–Dominguez Hills is now the No. 2 team after they are still holding on to being undefeated and the only team to do so this year.

Both teams were only separated by five points in the rankings, emphasizing how competitive the Division is.

Will It Looks Like GVSU Had A Close Game

  • In last week’s rankings, I proposed the question of whether Grand Valley State women’s basketball will have a close game during this regular season. Well, that was answered this past weekend.
  • The first game of the weekend looked much the same. The Lakers dominated conference foes, blowing out Purdue Northwest 126-48.
  • With the second game, GVSU found themselves in a close game with Parkside on the road and would get stunned, losing the game by two.

Other Big News Surrounding Teams

  • Pittsburg State women’s basketball won both games but is still at No. 5, even with Grand Valley State losing. The three other teams in the top five Texas Women’s, Cal State-Dominguez Hills, and Bentley, moved up instead.
  • Gannon is back in the rankings and dropped out last week from No. 7 to No. 25.
