Now that the bracket has released for the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament the time has come for the final regular season rankings in Division III.
Conference titles moved the best teams around the ranking more than other games this season.
This is expected and shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone considering that conference tournaments are the closest thing to the big dance, serving as practice for it in a way.
Even though, the regular season no longer matters here is what to know about the last rankings before the DIII men’s basketball championship.
A New No. 1 For One Last Time
- What better way to end an amazing Division III men’s basketball regular season than with one last chance for the No. 1 spot?
- Wesleyan came into the conference championships as the only undefeated team and easily the top team. They defeated tough competition, Amherst by seven points and Hamilton by five in a double overtime nail-biter.
- However, in the NESCAC championship game, the Cardinals lost to Trinity, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, their first loss of the season.
- After that loss, the door opened up for NYU and UW-Platteville to take the No. 1 spot. Although both teams would dominate their conference, NYU men’s basketball got the edge to secure the top spot.
