Nebraska listed in USA TODAY Sports’ post-spring rankings

Post-spring Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings are beginning to come out, and Nebraska football is well-represented. They were a part of USA TODAY Sports list, compiled by Paul Meyerberg and Erick Smith.

The Big Ten led the charge in the overall rankings. Ohio State secured the top spot, while Penn State secured the second spot.

Texas and Georgia rounded out the top four. In the meantime, the Huskers secured the 22nd spot in the rankings. This came as a result of a productive spring filled with new faces, changes on both sides of the football, and key returners coming back into the fold.

Meyerberg and Smith gave their explanation for putting the Huskers in these rankings.

“There’s still a talent gap between Nebraska and the best of the Big Ten, but this is a team and program ready for the next step. On offense, QB Dylan Raiola should put up big numbers under offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. The defense has a new coordinator in John Butler and will have to rebuild up front. But the Cornhuskers have a terrific transfer class set to join the defense, including EDGE Dasan McCullough (Oklahoma), LB Marques Watson-Trent (Georgia Southern) and DL Williams Nwaneri (Missouri).”

The preseason hype is certainly building for the program.  On3’s Andy Staples also put Nebraska in his Post-Spring top-25 as well. It’s always easy to get excited about the Huskers in the offseason. Nevertheless, momentum for the program is at an all-time high, especially coming off a bowl win.
