Nebraska to play in inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas

The Nebraska men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in a brand new postseason tournament. The Huskers will play the Arizona State Sun Devils in the first round of the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament.

The Huskers enter the tournament with an overall record of 17-14 and are on a five-game losing streak. The Sun Devils are 13-19 on the season and are also entering the postseason on a five-game losing streak.

The tournament will occur from March 31 to April 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg said that following the disappointing end to the regular season, the players wanted a chance to keep playing.

“We are excited to have an opportunity to continue our season and play in the first-ever College Basketball Crown. When we met as a team following the regular season, the players wanted a chance to continue playing. This has been a resilient group, and we are looking forward to a chance to play in the Crown.”

The tournament is embracing the new era of college basketball. Players are competing for financial compensation, with the semifinalists guaranteed at least $50,000 in NIL money, the runner-up earning $100,000, and the champion winning $300,000.

Nebraska and Arizona State will play on Monday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be played at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be shown on Fox. Find social media reactions from Nebraska fans below.
