One of Nebraska’s portal additions from the offseason is no longer with the program, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule announced Saturday.
Rhule announced Saturday that Kentucky wide receiver transfer Hardley Gilmore IV has been dismissed from the program.
“Nothing outside the program, nothing criminal or anything like that,” Rhule said of Gilmore’s dismissal.
Gilmore came to Nebraska after spending one season at Kentucky. The Florida native re-classified and enrolled a year early at Kentucky. In his one season in the SEC, Gilmore caught six passes for 153 yards after missing the first five games of the year because of injury.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Gilmore was a three-star prospect out of high school and the No. 49 wide receiver available in the transfer portal in the winter.
Gilmore was one of several new additions to Nebraska’s wide receiver group in the offseason, along with former Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key and Cal transfer Nyziah Hunter.
“We’re a work in progress, but there are a lot of guys new to the system, but they’ve picked it up, they’ve learned,” Rhule said of the wide receiver group.
Gilmore, who turned 18 in December, was coached by current Nebraska wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts at Kentucky. Earlier this spring, Shorts said Gilmore would benefit from being at Nebraska.
“I think he went through some growing pains last year but watching Hardley now and then last year from this point, it’s night and day,” Shorts said. “This is the perfect place for him. Coach Rhule does a heckuva job. He doesn’t take it easy. He pushes those guys. He builds relationships but he also holds them accountable. I think a lot of the off-field stuff with Hardley is carrying over to the football. He’s put on a lot of weight since he’s got here so he’s done a good job.”
