New homes in 2025: Local football players hit the transfer portal and found new teams

The college football transfer portal opened on Dec. 9 and the chance to enter ended on Dec. 28. Thousands of players, including many local products, put names into the portal and found new programs for the 2025 season.

Cincinnati locals that used the college football transfer portal

Koy Beasley (La Salle), Purdue University to Miami University

A four-star recruit to Purdue after high school, Beasley hit the portal after Purdue went 1-11 and fired its head coach. Beasley moved closer to home with his new decision, joining the Miami RedHawks.

Sterling Berhkhalter, here scoring against Towson last August, had 11 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown in 12 games for the Bearcats in 2024. He chose to transfer to Wake Forest for the upcoming season.

Sterling Berkhalter (Princeton), University of Cincinnati to Wake Forest University

Berkhalter began his career at North Carolina A&T before going to Cincinnati where he had 11 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown in 12 games for the Bearcats in 2024. The Princeton grad will spend his redshirt senior season at Wake Forest.

Mitch Bolden (Lakota West), Army to Miami University

Bolden spent two seasons as a quarterback on Army’s roster with game action before transferring to Miami where the RedHawks announced him as a tight end.

Javion Bostic (Winton Woods), University of Toledo to Thomas More University

Bostic had three more year of eligibility when he left Toledo and made a commitment to Thomas More.

Jay’Quan Bostic (Taft), University of Toledo to Bowling Green State University

Bostic made the intra-conference switch from Toledo to Bowling Green after redshirting in his only year for the Rockets.

Cameron Calhoun (Winton Woods), University of Utah to University of Alabama

Calhoun was a top recruit out of Winton Woods before heading to Michigan where he was before transferring to Utah for the 2024 season. Calhoun was again a top recruit, this time in the transfer portal where he transferred again to Alabama.

Ray Coney (Fairfield), East Tennessee State University to University of Tulsa

In his sophomore season as a linebacker for the FCS East Tennessee State squad, Coney started all 12 games and led the team with 97 tackles and 12 tackles for loss. He’ll jump over to Tulsa for 2025.

Trey Cornist (Winton Woods), Tulane University to Central Michigan University

Cornist will be a redshirt sophomore for Central Michigan next season after rushing 22 times for 149 yards and a touchdown in six games for Tulane last season.

Josiah Jackson (Fairfield), West Virginia University to Garden City Community College

After one tackle in two seasons at West Virginia, Jackson will go the community college path at Garden City Community College in Kansas.

Max Klare (St. Xavier), Purdue University to Ohio State University

A three-star recruit out of St. Xavier, 247Sports had Klare bumped up to a four-star transfer recruit and the top tight end in the portal. After 51 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns for Purdue in 2024, Klare will join the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in 2025.

Braedyn Moore (Badin), University of Wisconsin to University of Toledo

Moore went into the portal after playing in 11 games for Wisconsin in two seasons, notching a pair of tackles. Moore will spend 2025 in the Mid-American Conference with Toledo.

Jaymar Mundy (La Salle), Western Kentucky University to Ohio University

Mundy will head to Ohio University to play for the defending MAC champs and new head coach Brian Smith. Since graduating from La Salle, Mundy has spent time at Miami University, Hutchinson Community College and Western Kentucky before heading to the Bobcats.

Michael Mussari (Kings), University of Cincinnati to University of Dayton

Mussari handled some punt returns for Cincinnati early in the season and will head to Dayton in the FCS in 2025.

Zach Potter (Fenwick), University of Toledo to University of Wyoming

Potter had one tackle for Toledo as a freshman in 2024 before hitting the portal where he chose Wyoming.

James Thompson Jr. (Roger Bacon), University of Wisconsin to University of Illinois

Thompson Jr. played in 36 games from 2021 to 2023 at Wisconsin before getting in one game in 2024. With a year of eligibility left, he’ll stay in the Big Ten at Illinois.

Brandon White (Moeller), University of Kentucky to University of Hawaii

White played in six games across two seasons for Kentucky returning one kick in 2024. He’ll be a junior for the Rainbow Warriors.

Evan Wibberley (Dixie Heights), Western Kentucky University to University of Kentucky

Wibberley will keep his football career in the Bluegrass State. The Dixie Heights grad spent three seasons for Western Kentucky before transferring to the Big Blue of the University of Kentucky.
