It’s possible the Patriots have a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and could add another franchise player. Many mock drafts have New England selecting arguably college football’s most exciting player Travis Hunter.
Hunter plays both cornerback and wide receiver for Colorado and would provide Drake Maye with a weapon on offense or give New England a boost on defense. Draft guru Mel Kiper outlined why the Patriots would be a solid landing spot for the dynamic player.
“We’re talking about the best player in the class, so the fit has to be a team likely to pick in the top five, if not earlier. The Patriots would love to have the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Hunter, regardless of what position he plays in the pros. Quarterback Drake Maye needs a legitimate WR1, and Hunter can be that guy. His hand-eye coordination, speed and ball skills are all excellent,” Kiper wrote.

“But I could also see a world where coach Jerod Mayo puts him on defense, lining him up opposite Christian Gonzalez to form a great young cornerback duo,” he continued. “New England can’t go wrong; Hunter has eight TD catches and two interceptions this season.”
Hunter is putting together a Heisman Trophy-worthy season with 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns while amassing two interceptions and 20 tackles on defense.
It’s unclear if Hunter will continue to be a two-way player in the NFL, or if he’ll lean more toward one position. Should he choose to just be a cornerback, it wouldn’t make sense for the Patriots to draft Hunter that high. But if he is mainly a wide receiver, he certainly could help New England.
