The Pittsburgh Steelers have more quarterback questions than answers as they head into the offseason. And the options on the market do not look too appealing, especially for a team that will be picking in the 20s in a weak quarterback draft class.
So, could the Steelers take another shot at a veteran option on the market instead of bringing back either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson? NFL insider Peter King thinks that former NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers makes sense, even with how the Jets sputtered out under his lead.
“I think we have seen Russell Wilson hit a wall. Whether Mike Tomlin is even thinking about, I’m sure he’s not right now, thinking about 2025. They got a playoff game coming up, but if I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing that I’ve got Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, I’ve got guys on defense with their expiration dates not long in the future. I would want to come in and try to get a quarterback who can make me competitive with Baltimore and Cincinnati in 2025. That guy to me would be Aaron Rodgers,” King said.
Rodgers is coming off a torn Achilles tendon and did not play well this year as the Jets crashed and burned. After firing both general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh, it seems likely that Rodgers will be leaving New York.
Rodgers hinted that he could retire after the season, though it would take time to decide if that would happen. So, the Steelers figure to be watching that if they were interested in adding Rodgers to the team.
