For a third consecutive season the Dallas Stars have reached the Western Conference finals, and this year their opponent is the team that eliminated them last year, the Edmonton Oilers.

In the Eastern Conference, the defending champion Florida Panthers are still alive and will continue its title defense against the Carolina Hurricanes.

While Dallas had the third best record in the West in the regular season, they have home ice advantage because the Stars were one point better than Edmonton in the regular season. Carolina, meanwhile, finished one point ahead of Florida in the regular season and will have home ice, which means a potential Game 7 at home.
