The Stanley Cup playoffs continue on Monday with a pair of Game 4s. In both series, Monday’s hosts, Carolina and Edmonton, are leading 2-1. Vegas fans are probably still euphoric from the game-winning Reilly Smith goal with 0.4 seconds left in Game 3 against the Oilers. What will that series have for an encore?

Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes
Hurricanes lead series 2-1
Series odds: Hurricanes -600, Capitals +425
The Hurricanes took a 2-1 series lead after their commanding 4-0 Game 3 win over the Capitals on Saturday. Goalie Frederik Andersen had a standout performance with a perfect 21 saves and some particularly big stops, including this early one on a Tom Wilson breakaway, keeping the Capitals at bay during their dominant first period. It was an ugly Game 3, Sean Gentille points out.
Andrei Svechnikov also stood out. John Carlson did not. Also of note is that the Hurricanes have managed to shut down Alex Ovechkin so far through all three games. Will the NHL’s all-time goals leader pop in Game 4?

Vegas Golden Knights at Edmonton Oilers
Oilers lead series 2-1
Series odds: Oilers -250, Golden Knights +200
The Oilers may hold the 2-1 lead, but the Golden Knights have to be buzzing after Saturday’s remarkable Game 3 finish. Reilly Smith scored with just 0.4 seconds left to give Vegas its first win of the series. It was just the third go-ahead goal scored with less than one second remaining in NHL playoff history.
With Calvin Pickard injured in Game 2, Stuart Skinner was back in net for Edmonton. It wasn’t his best game.
Edmonton remains in a good spot with Game 4 at home and the edge in the series, but confidence and nerves could be shaken after the dramatic Game 3 finish.
