In today’s NHL rumors rundown, are the Toronto Maple Leafs among the speculated teams looking at the Schenn brothers ahead of the trade deadline? Are the Nashville Predators willing to trade anyone who doesn’t want to be there? Finally, the drama in Chicago is getting more prominent as Seth Jones called out the organization for not making any strides at all this season.
Maple Leafs Among Teams Exploring Trade for Schenn Brothers
The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching, and speculation is heating up about a potential deal involving both Brayden and Luke Schenn. According to Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, at least two teams have seriously considered acquiring the brothers as a package deal. It’s not clear which two teams, but there is some belief it could be the Leafs based on previous rumors they like Brayden Schenn.

Brayden brings leadership, grit, and a Stanley Cup-winning resume. Meanwhile, Luke, a right-handed defenseman with a Stanley Cup pedigree, has played for the Maple Leafs before. If not the Leafs, the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars have reportedly shown interest in the duo.
This won’t be an easy trade to pull off, as it requires cap space and the ability to make two separate trades with teams that are likely to be aware of the game plan. That potentially hurts the acquiring team’s leverage.
Predators Players Told GM Will Trade Anyone Who Wants Gone
In theory, trading anyone who doesn’t want to be there is easier than actually pulling off deals. Still, Predators’ GM Barry Trotz has reportedly gone to the entire Nashville locker room and told any players who don’t want to be there, don’t believe in their process, or don’t like the dressing room dynamics, that he’ll move them.
When Trotz appeared on 102.5 the Game, he noted:
“I’m okay with it now. We took our swing, okay. We still need guys to be able to play against top players. We have some of those players, they’re starting to age. The next group needs some support, and the next group is going to need those guys if we finish where we are this year and we get the high pick.
He also confirmed: “I would have no problem going to a player and saying, ‘Would you consider this?’” This is going to make the Predators an interesting team to watch. Do any of the big stars who signed on want to leave already? Or, is this a lot of talk where there will be little movement?
Jones Says Blackhawks Are the Same Team Since Day 1 of the Season
Seth Jones didn’t hold back while speaking with the media after another loss on Tuesday. The Blackhawks were outplayed by the Utah Hockey Club and he said after the game, “We’re the exact same team right now as we were in Game 1.” He added, “It’s pretty evident out there. We haven’t made any strides to be a better, more simple hockey team, and it shows.”

Jones is looking to be traded to a contender before the deadline. It won’t be an easy trade for the Blackhawks to make, as he carries a $9.5 million cap hit until 2030. One has to wonder if his decision to vocalize his frustrations is a way to urge the club to speed up a move or take a hit on the trade just to get rid of him.
His frustration is understandable as he’s been going through this with the Blackhawks for four seasons and has said his timeline isn’t the same as the team’s. He wants to win and while he was a good soldier, his frustration that the team hasn’t taken any steps to get better signifies it’s time to move on.
