NEW LONDON, Conn. – North Providence’s Mike Ficocelli, who is a sophomore catcher/first baseman on the Mitchell College baseball team, joined the program’s exclusive 100-hit club in only his 72nd collegiate game last Tuesday, April 1, in a 5-1 victory over Lasell University in GNAC (Great Northeast Athletic Conference) action at Alumni Field.
And Ficocelli’s 100th hit was a big one – a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the first inning that gave his team a quick 2-0 lead. That home run was his fourth of the season, and it helped the Mariners kick off a four-game win streak that included victories on their home field against Wesleyan (12-9 last Wednesday), Rivier (2-0 last Friday), and Dean (18-2 on Sunday afternoon).
