Not your average rookies: A Q&A with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean

CD: “Big golfer, I like to golf and played a lot this offseason. Play basketball when I can a little bit. Just hanging out with my family though too, I don’t do a whole lot outside of football.”

LW: What is your favorite food and has it changed since you’ve been in Philadelphia?

QM: “My favorite meal is probably gator tail, mac and cheese, baked beans, Rotel Dip, and dirty rice.”

CD: “Probably a classic steak and potatoes. There’s a bunch of good steakhouses here that we don’t have in Iowa, so I enjoy those. I like the pizza a lot out here and cheesesteaks.”

LW: You mentioned sports were big, when did you first dunk and when did it happen in a game?

CD: “It was summer going into my freshman year of high school. I never dunked in the game until my sophomore year. It was kind of whenever I got a shot at the free lane. I was always trying to dunk as much as I could. That’s what I loved about playing basketball, being able to drive down and dunk on somebody.”

LW: “You have been known to do your own dance while the defense does a group celebration. What is the reason behind that?

QM: “I’ve just been practicing my own dance at home. So, whenever I get a chance to pull one out, I’m going to do it no matter what they do.”

LW: You guys are both experiencing not only being rookies, but rookies who started early on. How have you two leaned on each other and what is that relationship like?

QM: “We’re just piggybacking off each other. Where Coop goes, I go, and where I go, he goes. We’re just helping each other out, watching film together and stuff like that. It’s been a real help having him along my side.”

CD: “We’ve built a good relationship. We’re always meeting with Coach together, studying film together, so it’s good to have him. It’s good to be able to grow and go through this process with him. We’re kind of learning as we’re going here, learning something new each week. It’s good to have another dude in the room to be able to learn with.”
