JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars will change direction at center again.
And a respected veteran is leaving the game.
Mitch Morse, who started 17 regular-season games for the Jaguars at center in 2024, on Thursday announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons. He signed with the Jaguars as a free agent last offseason.
“The things I’ll remember and cherish most about my career are the relationships and bonds I created with my teammates, both on and off of the field,” Morse said in a statement. “Nothing can replace that, and I will miss it dearly.
“I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars for ten unforgettable seasons. Most of all, I want to thank my wife, Catilin, and my children Kennedy and Deacon for their constant love and support on this journey.
“I look forward to spending more time with them as I navigate retirement.”
Morse’s announcement means the Jaguars in 2025 could have a fourth starting center in five seasons. Longtime starter Brandon Linder retired before the 2022 season after starting from 2014-2021, with Luke Fortner starting at the position in 2022-2023.
The announcement also marks another potential change on the offensive line moving into 2025. Brandon Scherff, who started at right guard from 2022-2024, is projected to become an unrestricted free agent when the 2025 League Year begins Wednesday, March 12.
Morse, 32, played five seasons – 2019-2023 – for the Buffalo Bills and started 77 games for the franchise. A second-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, he started 49 games in four seasons for that franchise.
