Ohio State football Black Stripe Alert! Another newcomer recognized.

The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh. Today, we give thanks for the gift of tight end Max Klare, who came to Ohio State via the portal from Purdue earlier this year. Today, Klare became an official member of the Brotherhood by losing his black stripe.

Some may wonder why the Buckeyes would bother with a player from lowly Purdue, but the truth is, this young man has the ability to be a serious weapon for new offensive coordinator Brian Hartline. Hailing from Cincinnati, Klare was only a three-star recruit coming out of St. Xavier High School. However, Klare would have a breakout year and be one of the few bright spots for the Boilermakers in 2024. He led Purdue in most receiving categories with 51 receptions, 685 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. He’s another playmaker that opposing defenses must account for.

With the Boilers making a coaching change and the opportunity to play for a national power, it only made sense for Klare to come back home to the Buckeye State when OSU showed interest. He was the No. 1 tight end in the portal.

Klare becomes the second player to lose his black stripe so far this spring, joining Miles Lockhart, who lost his over the weekend.
