Oklahoma State baseball vs Binghamton live score updates from NCAA elimination game

ATHENS, GA — One down, three to go.

Oklahoma State baseball began the long climb out of the loser’s bracket of the NCAA Tournament Athens Regional with a 13-5 win over Binghamton at Foley Field. The victory marks the 10th time out of 12 NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Josh Holliday that the Cowboys have won at least one game, and was Holliday’s 26th NCAA Tournament win with the program overall.

None of those 26 wins were quite like this one, at least not from a power perspective. Oklahoma State (29-24) clubbed seven home runs, the most of any NCAA Tournament game under Holliday and just two away from tying the most home runs by any team in an NCAA Regional game.

Six different Cowboys accounted for the long balls, starting with a back-to-back-to-back stretch in the third inning. Kollin Ritchie, Colin Brueggemann and Ian Daugherty all tagged solo homers off Binghamton (29-26) starting pitcher Hayden Tarsia, extending a slim 2-1 lead into a comfortable 5-1 advantage. Ritchie added his second of the day and third of the regional in the eighth inning.

One inning later, Avery Ortiz and Nolan Schubart went back-to-back to make it an 8-1 game, and Alex Conover added a home run in the fifth inning to give all six Cowboys batting second through seventh a home run on the day.

Hunter Watkins allowed four runs in 4 ⅔ innings on the mound before giving way to Stormy Rhodes and Ethan Lund, two seldom-used relievers who helped the Cowboys preserve pitching for the rest of the weekend. Rhodes only pitched one inning the entire month of May and Lund had not thrown since April 1st, but the duo combined to allow just one run over the final four frames.

Oklahoma State will play the loser of Saturday night’s Duke-Georgia game in another elimination game at 11 a.m. CT Sunday.
