Ole Miss baseball is back to hosting an NCAA tournament regional.
The Rebels (40-19) were announced as one of 16 NCAA tournament regional hosts on May 25 by the NCAA. It is the first time Ole Miss has been a regional host since 2021. Ole Miss’ national seed and the entire bracket and pairings will be released during the selection show on May 26 (11 a.m., ESPN2)
It will be Ole Miss’ first time returning to the NCAA tournament since 2022, when the Rebels won the Men’s College World Series.
How Ole Miss baseball has fared as a regional host
Postseason baseball is back at Swayze Field after a brief hiatus.
The Rebels have hosted an NCAA regional 10 times, most recently in 2021. The Rebels won that regional with wins over Southeast Missouri, Florida State and Southern Miss. Ole Miss lost to Arizona in a road super regional after that series.
In the two most recent runs Ole Miss has made to the College World Series, the Rebels have gotten to Omaha in unique ways. Ole Miss hosted a regional in 2014 and later went to Omaha. When Ole Miss won the national championship in 2022 the Rebels began with a road regional win.
How Ole Miss baseball earned a national seed
Ole Miss baseball cemented its place as a regional host by going on a run in the SEC tournament. The Rebels were seeded No. 7 in the tournament and made it to the title game on May 25. Ole Miss lost 3-2 against No. 4 Vanderbilt in the championship game.
The Rebels got to that stage by beating No. 10 Florida, No. 2 Arkansas and No. 3 LSU in its march through the bracket.
Ole Miss has the most Quad 1 wins in the nation and is 19-15 in such games.
The Rebels greatly exceeded expectations since being picked to finish No. 15 out of 16 in the preseason SEC poll voted on by the conferences’ coaches.
