Oregon State looks to punch ticket to College Baseball World Series

The Oregon State baseball team is hosting Florida State in a best-of-three Super Regional series that starts Friday and carries through the weekend at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.

This marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Oregon State (45-13) had reached the Super Regional phase three of the past four seasons.

“Every minute of every day, you are working on being a champion, and when you are doing that expectations are always high,” OSU coach Mitch Canham said. “We are constantly setting our sights higher than most people are used to. For us that’s just normal.”

Canham also won three Super Regionals as a player with the Beavers from 2005-2007.

Oregon State’s Trent Caraway enters the series on a streak of five consecutive games with a home run.

The Beavers defense is also operating on all cylinders, ranking in the top 10 in the nation for fielding percentage (.982) — maintaining that mark would be a program record for the Beavers.

Game 1 of the Super Regionals is set for 3 p.m. Friday and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Game 2 is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, and Game 3, if necessary, will be played Sunday.
