Thanks to starting pitcher Aiden Phipps, Team LGBTQ now sits atop the baseball record books at Beloit College.
On March 27, Phipps picked up his 23rd career win after throwing 8.0 solid innings in the Buccaneers’ 9-4 victory over Cornell College.
With that result, Phipps broke the school’s all-time record for career wins by a pitcher and stood alone at the pinnacle of Beloit’s leaderboard with 23.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Beloit and Cornell trading leads over the first few innings, and the score was tied, 3-3, after six.
Then the Buccaneer bats exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh and Phipps’ record-breaking win was in sight.
Over eight innings, Phipps kept Cornell in check, allowing four runs on eleven hits but never letting the Rams take advantage of their baserunners with a big inning. He utilized his defense, walking one and striking out one.
With his 23rd career win, Phipps broke Geoff Bailey’s nearly three-decade old school record of 22. Bailey played for the Buccaneers from 1993 to 1996.
Phipps also holds the top two spots on the Beloit single season wins record list, picking up 11 in 2023 and eight more last year.
Two college basketball players in love
After one of those wins over Grinnell College in March of 2023, Phipps began communicating with Pioneers outfielder Cole Philpott through social media. Their chemistry clicked over the next few months and the two eventually became boyfriends.
During that time, Phipps came out to his family, with Philpott offering support and encouragement from afar. The two players told the story of how they met and began dating to Outsports that fall.

Following Phipps’ record-breaking victory, Philpott congratulated his boyfriend on his Instagram story with a collage of pictures from their moments together away from the field.
There will be plenty of opportunities for Phipps to add to his record as Beloit has more than a month’s worth of games remaining on its schedule.
After he finishes his senior year, his career wins total will be a point of pride for his school and the entire LGBTQ sports world.
