Outfielder Mitch Olson becomes sixth Watertown Post 17 player to announce his college baseball choice

WATERTOWN — Make it six.

Watertown High School senior Mitch Olson became the sixth Post 17 American Legion Baseball player to announce his plans to continue playing baseball in college.

On Friday, Olson announced on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account that has committed to play baseball at the University of Sioux Falls. The Cougars are a NCAA Division II program that plays in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

“Committed! Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way,” Olson posted.

The sweet-swinging lefty outfielder batted .374 with nine doubles, two triples, 49 runs scored, 37 runs batted in, 40 walks and 20 stolen bases for a Post 17 team that went 46-25 and finished third in the state Class A tournament. He also went 3-0 as a reliever on the mound.

Five of Olson’s teammates, who like him are all eligible to play for Post 17 again next summer, recently officially signed to play college baseball after announcing their committments at various times through the past year.
