Four Tennessee football players were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft with a number of others signing undrafted free agent deals following the conclusion of the draft.

While only four players who ended their careers in the orange and white went in the seven round draft, two others that started their career at Tennessee before transferring away went on the final day of the draft.

The Miami Dolphins selected defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in the fifth round of the draft with the No. 143 overall pick before the New York Jets selected defensive end Tyler Baron later in the fifth round with the No. 176 overall pick.

Phillips was a three-star recruit in Tennessee football’s 2022 recruiting class and spent just one year at Tennessee where he played in just three games and totaled three tackles. But after leaving Tennessee for Maryland, Phillips had a highly productive two seasons to make him a draft candidate.

Th 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle was a key cog on the Terrapins defensive line in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons where he combined to total 58 tackles and three tackles for loss.

While Phillips is understandably not a super well known name to Tennessee fans, almost all remember Tyler Baron and his effective four-year career at Tennessee.

A Knoxville native, Baron was a multi-year starter at Tennessee where he combined for 101 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in a Volunteer uniform. His best season at Tennessee came in 2023 when he totaled 28 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and six sacks.

Baron transferred to Miami for his final year of eligibility and had a strong season on a terrible Hurricanes defense, totaling 38 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

Two of Tennessee football’s four draft selections were defensive linemen with edge rusher James Pearce Jr going in the first round to Atlanta and Omarr Norman-Lott went in the second round to Kansas City. That means that four former Tennessee defensive linemen were NFL Draft selections.
