Parker Washington is fantasy football’s Cedric Tillman for NFL Week 9

If you’re searching for this week’s Cedric Tillman on waivers, check out the Jags’ Parker Washington, who could get more work after injuries to Chrsitian Kirk and Brian Robinson Jr.

The Jaguars had a rough Week 8—there’s really no other way to slice it. Not only did they lose to the Packers and fall to 2-6 on the season, but they also suffered a brutal week from an injury perspective. With multiple wide receivers leaving with injuries, though, there is a huge opportunity for Parker Washington to make a fantasy splash going forward.

What went down

Since drafting Trevor Lawrence ($5,600) No. 1 overall, the Jaguars tried to upgrade their offense by signing Christian Kirk and Gabe Davis ($5,000) to big free agent deals. They also used a high draft pick on promising rookie Brian Thomas Jr. ($6,600).

On Sunday, though, all three of those receivers went down with injuries. Kirk was quickly ruled out during the game and will miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Thomas seems to have avoided major injury, since MRIs revealed no broken bones. Coach Doug Pederson said Thomas is day-to-day, but there were also reports that he could miss 2-to-4 weeks.

There have been no updates on the severity of Davis’s shoulder injury, but even when he has been healthy, he has struggled for the most part this season. In eight games, he has totaled only 217 yards (27.1 yards per game) and has only had one game with more than 10 fantasy points.

How Parker Washington can rise up

Even if Thomas or Davis is able to return quickly, just the injury to Kirk is enouth to open up a window for Washington. If Thomas, Davis or both are out in addition to Kirk, Washington will have an even higher ceiling.

Washington tied for the team lead in targets on Sunday against Green Bay and had three catches for 46 yards. He led all receivers with a 74% snap share and 46 receiving yards in that game after only having three catches for 21 yards in the previous seven games of the season combined.

Even though he wasn’t involved much this year, Washington showed some solid potential in his rookie year last year. The Jaguars originally added him in the sixth-round after he was drafted in the sixth round out of Penn State. He had 16 catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns last year and finished the year with at least one catch in six straight games.

Washington’s Outlook going forward

How much of a workload Washington will have the rest of the season is still very unclear with multiple injury outlooks clouding the issue. However, he should get an increased role to some extent. We saw a solid connection with Lawrence last year, and we know coach Doug Pederson is going to let Lawrence keep throwing the ball no matter who is out there to catch it.

Washington is only $3,600 in DFS fantasy contests for Week 9, like the NFL $2.75M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st]. He is also virtually universally available in season-long leagues since his role was so minimal before the rash of receiver injuries.

In Week 8, Cedric Tillman ($4,300) was only $3,300 and went off for a monster game with two touchdowns, 99 yards and 28.9 fantasy points. He was stepping in for the traded Amari Cooper ($5,800) and took advantage of extra playing time to establish himself as a fantasy factor going forward. This week, Washington could be on a similar path and poised for a breakout against the Eagles.

In the next three weeks before their bye week, the Jags face the Eagles, Vikings and Lions, all of whom rank in the top 10 for most fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. If you’re looking for this week’s Tillman in DFS, Washington is in a great spot to step up and deliver a huge game with increased opportunity.

In season-long leagues, I had Tillman as a waiver wire add last week, but if you missed out and have too low a priority to snag him this week, Washington is worth a shot if you’re trying to get ahead of the game and find the next breakout receiver.
