Paul Finebaum reveals best remaining team as College Football Playoff semifinals draw near

College football fans won’t have to wait long to find out who will be playing for the National Championship.

That’s because the College Football Playoff semifinals begin on Thursday night, with Penn State doing battle with Notre Dame before Texas and Ohio State clash a day later.

While fans will undoubtedly debate which of the four teams is favorite to win it all, analyst Paul Finebaum was clear on who he believes is the best of the four.

“I still think Ryan Day has some pressure,” Finebaum said when talking about who is facing more pressure between Ryan Day and Steve Sarkisian.

“Now, I agree with Heather completely. I don’t think the weight of the world is on his shoulders anymore, but he has the best team. He has the most talented team. A lot of people have already given him the trophy so I do think there is pressure there.”

Buckeyes have been on a roll

The Buckeyes currently rank 11th in points per game (36.4) and first points per game allowed (12.1). Those stats, along with dominant wins over the Tennessee Volunteers and the No.1 Oregon Ducks in which they never trailed, has many pointing to this being the Buckeyes’ year.

As a result they enter Friday’s Cotton Bowl as 5.5 point favorites, likely aided by the fact that the Longhorns gave up more tan 400 yards and six yards per play at home against Clemson.

Texas then needed a fourth-and-13 in overtime to defeat Arizona State. Nevertheless, many feel Friday’s game could be a close one as Ohio State looks to play for its first national championship since winning it all in 2014.
